  1. What is a UPS?
  2. What is USB?
  3. What is the proper way to shut down a computer?

Q. What is a UPS?
A. UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supply (only $59 at Staples or Office Depot!) provides battery backup power when the AC line voltage (normally 110-120 volts) drops below a specified threshold. There is enough energy to keep a computer powered for 15 to 30 minutes, but if the hydro outage is prolonged you should shut your computer down properly as soon as you save your work. Many UPS units have a USB cable connection to the computer, which will automatically enable the computer to shut down properly.

Q. What is USB?
A. USB or Universal Serial Bus is a high-speed interface for interconnecting computers, peripherals (e.g. printer, digital camera, mouse, keyboards etc.) and consumer storage devices (e.g. iPod, flash drives etc.)

Q. What is the proper way to shut down a computer?
A.
